Belief Revision in Multi-Agent Systems

چکیده
The ability to respond sensibly to changing and conflicting beliefs is an integral part of intelligent agency. To this end, we outline the design and implementation of a Distributed Assumption based Truth Maintenance System (DATMS) appropriate for controlling cooperative problem solving in a dynamic real world multi-agent community. Our DATMS works on the principle of local coherence which means that different agents can have different perspectives on the same fact provided that these stances are appropriately justified. The belief revision algorithm is presented, the meta-level control actions needed to ensure that all system-wide queries can be uniquely answered is described, and the DATMS' implementation in a general purpose multi-agent shell is discussed. only be used when there is supporting local evidence?, how should contradictions between the beliefs of different agents be dealt with?, and so on. It is in the discussion and resolution of these issues (section 2), and their subsequent implementation (section 3), that the main contribution of this work lies. 2. REVISING BELIEFS IN MULTI-AGENT SYSTEMS This section briefly describes the fundamentals of belief revision systems (section 2.1), before the key principles and concepts of belief revision in multi-agent systems are expounded (section 2.2).

Multi-Agent Belief Revision
We introduce a basic framework for multi agent belief revision in heterogeneous societies where agents are required to be consistent in their beliefs on shared variables We identify several properties one may require a general multi agent belief revision operator to satisfy and show several basic implications of these requirements Our work reveals the connection between multi agent belief revis...
متن کاملThe Algebra of Multi-Agent Dynamic Belief Revision
We refine our algebraic axiomatization in [8, 9] of epistemic actions and epistemic update (notions defined in [5, 6] using a relational, Kripke-style semantics), to incorporate a mechanism for dynamic belief revision in a multi-agent setting. Our approach has a number of novel features, when compared with traditional belief revision systems such as AGM [2]. Firstly: while traditional belief re...
متن کاملModeling knowledge dynamics in multi-agent systems based on informants
In this paper we model knowledge dynamics in agents’ belief bases in a collaborative multiagent system. Four change operators are introduced: expansion, contraction, prioritized revision, and non-prioritized revision. For all of them, both constructive definitions and an axiomatic characterization by representation theorems are given. We formally justify minimal change, consistency maintenance,...
متن کاملTowards a multi-valued logic for argumentation
The objective of our paper is to investigate the possibilities of a logical representation for argumentation executed in multi-agent systems. We concentrate particularly on belief’s uncertainty and revision that an agent deals with throughout the process of discussion. Moreover, we propose a formalism based on a multi-valued logic that allows for specification of properties of multi-agent syste...
متن کاملChoosing Your Beliefs
This paper presents and discusses a novel approach to indeterministic belief revision. An indeterministic belief revision operator assumes that, when an agent is confronted with a new piece of information, it can revise its belief sets in more than one way. We define a rational agent not only in terms of what it believes but also of what it desires and wants to achieve. Hence, we propose that t...
